DESCRIPTION :
Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008 was established with a noble intention to create a community within the Malaysians towards a greater awareness of Information Technology and its importance thus embarking a better future in this field. This Challenge would play a major role in being the catalyst for building IT capabilities for socially and economically disadvantaged Malaysian.

Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008 would be the platform for the participants to produce any business idea related to IT and to compete with number of others and outshine to receive the awards and recognition.

This challenge is opened to all Malaysian Indian students in tertiary institutions and Indian working professionals. Participation is individual or team based. Maximum number in a team is 3 participants.

Society for Social Improvement via Technology (SSiT)

Society for Social Improvement via Technology (SSiT) functions with the objective to improve the general well being of the poorer income group through strategic programs to improve employability and create an entrepreneur spirit within the Indian society. The self realization of its founding members of the availability of success in the IT field and the lack of initiatives by the community to seize the prospect has and had indeed lead towards the development of Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008.

Competition Background

STRUCTURE

STAGE 1

Submission of their
business idea, a team of Internal Judges will vet through and select the top 5
teams for the two categories

STAGE 2

Short-listed teams
(10) will be sent for a 1-day skill enhancement seminar and workshop conducted
by a professional and reputable facilitator

STAGE 3

Honorary Judges
will then select from the top ten short listed teams, the best business idea
and rank the top three winners for each category. The deliberation for the
selection of the top three winners for each category will only be done after
the formal presentation by the required teams

Terms & Conditions

Interested teams & participants must meet and abide by the following requirements and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the competition as described below and as may be amended by the Organizer at its sole discretion, without prior notice.

Entry Requirements

The event is open solely for Indian IT Professionals and Indian University Students.

There are two categories enlisted for this competition which is IT Professionals & Students and both categories are individual participation or team based and teams should consist of 3 person max.

For both categories we hereby refer them as ‘participants’.

Staffs & Immediate family member of the Society for Social Improvement via Technology and Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008 are not allowed to participate.

Participant must be willing to travel or attend any function organized by the organizer at any time if required.

Participants under the university student’s category must be between eighteen to twenty five years of age as of [December 2008].

Upon registration participants must submit the IT idea/plan using the templates provided on the website.

Ideas must be expressed in not more than 1,500 words (no pictures/objects) and uploaded at the official website.

If the Idea has been sponsored or funded by any person or organization(s) or institute of higher education(s), full details of the sponsorship or funding will have to be declared on the application form.

In such a case the participants must demonstrate that the sponsor has not had any control over the creative process involved in the creation of the idea; The Idea submitted for consideration must be original and should not be offensive or contain elements that may be deemed insensitive or that may contravene the laws of Malaysia.

The participants should confirm that in relation to any third party materials incorporated into the Idea or the expression of the Idea, the participants has obtained the necessary clearances and licenses for such use.

The participants must confirm that the Idea and any materials produced or compiled in relation thereto do not infringe the rights of any third party. The Organizer shall not be responsible for any entry that is lost or damaged; Each participant must be in a good state of health and have no medical, physical or emotional condition which might interfere with their participation in the event.

The Organizer’s decision on the winning teams is final and no correspondence or appeal will be entertained.

The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify at any time any winning individual/team for any breach of any of the terms and conditions herein or any rules of the Organizer or for failure to follow the rules and directions of the Organizer or if in the sole discretion of the Organizer, such winning individual/team in the event and Competition is likely to tarnish the image of the Organizer or Malaysia or bring their reputation into disrepute;

The Organizer will only notify participants whose Idea have been short listed and or selected as winners via email & phone calls; All prizes awarded are not exchangeable nor transferable;

All the terms and conditions of the Contest, are subject to change; the Organizer reserves the absolute right to amend and change any of the terms and conditions including the entry requirements without prior notice; and The participant/participating team (including the participant/participating team’s successors assigns and licensees) hereby irrevocably agree that notwithstanding their right title and interest in and to all or any part of their works, ideas and/or any materials including all other intellectual property rights and applications for any of those rights under or in connection with the ‘Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008 Programme, the Organizer including its associates, subsidiaries, affiliates, assignees, agents and/or any other parties as the Organizer may at its sole and absolute discretion deem fit is hereby irrevocably and unconditionally authorized by the

participant/participating team to use any and/or all of the said works, ideas and/or materials including all other intellectual property rights and applications for any of those rights in any manner whatsoever and by whatever means throughout the world.

The Organizer shall not be under any obligation to commence or continue the competition, production, distribution, release, exhibition or other exploitation of the Programme and no compensation shall be payable to the Participant for any alleged

loss of publicity or opportunity to enhance the Participant’s reputation arising from such circumstances.

Disqualification

The short listed participant/team is required to do a final presentation to the honorary judges upon notification. Any participant/team that is not able to do the presentation will be disqualified.

Incomplete, incorrect or illegible entries will be disqualified.

Entry Procedures

The participants must duly complete the application form. The Terms and Conditions of Saraswathy IT Challenge 2008 must be read and understood by the Participant or team. The completed template containing the ‘idea’ (available on the official website) is to be uploaded at the official website
